MASTER CHUN RHEE

Hi, my name is Master Chun Rhee and I own and operate the Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do School in Falls Church. I guess you can say I have been training with Tae Kwon Do since birth. You may remember me from the old "Nobody Bothers Me" commercials back in the early 70's and 80's. I was the one who said "Nobody Bothers Me Either!" and winked at the end. The other child in the commercial was my younger sister Meme. That commercial aired for over 15 years in the Washington DC area. The greatest benefit Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do has given me over the years is that it has helped me with my other hobbies. As a child, I loved playing soccer and I was always a little more agile and flexible than the other kids on my team. Currently, I am an avid golfer and many of the principles of balance and power taught in tae kwon do are applied  to the golf game.

I am a 5th degree black belt under the Jhoon Rhee system and have been running the family business since 1992. I graduated from the College of William and Mary and I am happily married to my beautiful wife Lisa Lee.

MASTER MANUEL BONILLA

Hi my name is Master Manuel Bonilla and I am a 4th degree master instructor under the Jhoon Rhee System. I began taking Tae Kwon Do classes at Jhoon Rhee, Falls Church as a high school freshman. I quickly fell in love with the sport and found myself at the school almost every day. As an under belt, I enjoyed every opportunity I was given to help with class instruction. I earned my black belt three years later, in the summer of 1988. Some of my hobbies include running marathons, soccer and golf.I am happily married to my wife Emma Fletcher for almost 8 years, and we have 2 beautiful daughters Eliza and Julia.

JACKIE CURIEL

My name is Jackie Curiel and I am a third degree black belt at the Jhoon Rhee Institute of Falls Church. I first began tae kwon do at the age of five at the Annandale studio under Master Chun Rhee and Master Lightfoot. I received my first degree black belt at the age of nine in 1997. I had stopped for a little while after that for the reason of not knowing there were higher degrees of black belt.

Later on in 2002, my mother wished for me to return for self-defense. It had been a long time so I had to retrain and remember everything. After some perseverance I was ready to test for my second degreee, which I received in 2003 at the age of 15. Soon after I reached my current degree of third.

I am currently enrolled at George Mason University and will hopefully graduate in the year 2009, with a degree in Art History and minor in Arts Administration/ Management. In the future, I wish to pursue my masters and Ph. D and to go back in receiving a degree in education and child psychology.

SUSANNE HOEPFL-WELLENHOFER

Hi, my name is Susanne Hoepfl-Wellenhofer.  I had my first Tae-Kwon-Do class on October 2, 1997 at the age of 40.  The reason I started was because my 6-year-old son wanted a star for his uniform which he was promised if one of his parents tried out the program.  I got hooked that first day and never looked back.  I passed my first degree test in June 2000, my second degree in March 2003, and my third degree in February 2006.  When I started to swat as a brown belt I realized how much I enjoyed it and began to work as a part-time instructor in October 2000.

I love to teach and enjoy my work at GW. My favorite hobbies are skiing, reading, going to all sorts of cultural events, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

I am originally from Graz, Austria.  I met my husband in Europe; we married overseas and moved to the States in 1986. We have two teenage sons and live in Falls Church.

JACE BARRETT

I started attending Jhoon Rhee in February 1998; I was five years old. I started with my Dad and older sister and we moved through the belts together. The three of us received our black belts on November 16 of 2002. Growing up I played many sports and participated in many group activities with kids of my own age, but Tae Kwon Do was the only activity I was able to do with my family. I am a junior at Marshall High School and run track and cross-country. I am currently a second-degree black belt and have been teaching at the Falls Church studio since March of 2008.

PABLO CALDERON

Hello my name is Pablo Calderon, also known as Mr. C by many students. I am currently a first degree black belt and a student at Virginia Tech and have started teaching Tae Kwon Do in the summer in 2007. I started Tae Kwon Do when I was thirteen in middle school back in 2001. It has been seven years since then and I am still practicing. I first started practicing Tae Kwon Do for similar reasons as anyone, but most notably I started for the pure reason of learning self defense. However, Tae Kwon Do did more than teach me how to protect myself. I have learned how to have control over my body and mind in many ways that I never thought I would be able to. For example, my flexibility increase dramatically that now I can kick above head level. But besides the physical benefits I received, I have also learned some important values of self respect and having confidence in myself. Some of my hobbies are reading, running and playing tennis with my mom when I have some spare time.

DESHA PRASHAD NIXON

Hi! I'm Desha Prashad Nixon and I started taking up classes on Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do in March 1999 at the age of 30. I became a student because I saw that my son was enjoying his classes, and I wanted to have fun too! I received my Black Belt in June 2003. I have been the Program Manager at the Falls Church Studio since February 2007.

I graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1991 and have a Masters Degree in Psychology from Marymount University. I have been married for 16 years to Bill Nixon and have three amazing sons: William, Barrett and Harrison.

My favorite things to do includes scrapbooking, playing video games (surprised?), Sudoku (which has been known to drive me crazy). fix-it projects, and watching my boys' baseball and basketball games.

ANNA ROME

My name is Anna Rome.  I am twenty-three years old a second degree black belt in Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do.  I have been training off and on for sixteen years and have been teaching for eight.  I got my first degree of black belt at the age of ten at Jhoon Rhee in Fairfax, then continued my training at a number of affiliated schools.  I am currently a student at George Mason University working toward a specialized integrative diploma in Therapeutic Martial Arts.  This past year I worked with Fairfax County Therapeutic Recreation services and began teaching Tae Kwon Do classes both through the county and at Jhoon Rhee for individuals of all ages with special needs.
